About the role
EHS manager works to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, develop and implement safety and environmental policies, conduct risk assessments, and promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship at Southco, Honeoye Falls Location.
Compensation: $110,000-$150,000
What you will be doing
- Strategically plan, manage and supervise EHS activities by leading the development, implementation and administration of ESH policies, procedures and programs coordinated with the Corporate Director of Risk Management and the Corporate EHS Council to maintain compliance with all applicable laws, standards and regulations
- Assist in the development, drafting, implementation and compliance of a Southco Environmental Management System based upon compliance with ISO 14001
- Serve as the primary focal point for action and coordination of compliance activities with respect to all environmental, health and safety issues on a company wide basis. Work with the applicable facility personnel on waste stream minimization, disposal and documentation and environmental best practices including implementation and maintenance of Southco’s Environmental Management System
- Research and stay current with the latest local, state, and federal standards and regulations pertaining to the environmental and workplace health and safety by participating on the appropriate Southco Corporate EHS Council
- Perform EHS assessments at all Southco facilities and suggest preventive/corrective actions based on observations while striving for the development of ideas, programs and initiatives for continuous improvement in the EHS area
- Review accident reports and analyze accident data from insurance carrier to identify patterns of injury and to determine whether adequate investigation was done to determine if unsafe conditions contributed to the accident; advise departments of trends in injuries and proper safety procedures that may result in reduction of injuries; provide departments with information that will allow them to be pro-active in reducing accidents and improving safety
- Review and provide input to plans and specifications for new safety equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE’s), machinery and processes to determine if all applicable environmental and safety precautions/issues have been considered and addressed in order to maintain and improve the company’s safety standards
- Work with Learning & Development function to plan, develop and conduct training programs to support the policies and procedures designed to maintain compliance while providing guidance, training and technical support to supervisors, employees and the safety committee on the behavioral safety process and other continuous improvement techniques as they relate to environmental health and safety issues
- Facilitate the development of the other EHS professionals within Southco while also coaching supervisors and managers with the intent of increasing awareness, involvement and commitment in EHS activities
- Provide support to facility manager around scorecard metrics involving safety
- Manage and supervise local facility EHS support personnel. Provide shared dotted-line management of EHS personnel at other Southco facilities on a global basis
- Ensure compliance with OSHA as well as other environmental and safety record keeping and reporting regulations are met
- Manages the administration of environmental, occupational health and safety surveillance programs with facility management, and outside consultants coordinated, where applicable, with Director of Risk Management
About you
- BS degree in Occupational Safety & Health or a technical related field or appropriate combination of education and working experience
- 7 years minimum experience in Industrial EH&S including specific knowledge in and experience with state and federal laws relating to safety and environmental issues
- An enthusiastic, energetic, positive outlook toward company goals, work ethics and quality
- Team leadership qualities and people skills needed to motivate, assist and communicate with Southco people
- Willingness to receive future education and training and to stay current with any required certifications
- Ability to anticipate future needs, identify and implement new technologies and methods to improve EHS efforts
- Demonstrated excellent analytical, supervisory, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
