About the role

An Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment while also protecting the surrounding environment. They develop, implement, and monitor EHS programs and policies to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents.

 

Compensation: $85,000-$100,000

What you will be doing

  • Developing and Implementing EHS Programs: This includes creating safety plans, environmental management systems, and procedures to address potential hazards and risks.
  • Conducting Risk Assessments and Hazard Identification: Identifying potential hazards in the workplace and evaluating the level of risk associated with them.
  • Ensuring Regulatory Compliance: Staying up-to-date with local, state, and federal EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and ensuring the organization adheres to them.
  • Conducting Audits and Inspections: Regularly inspecting facilities and work practices to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Investigating Accidents and Incidents: Analyzing the root causes of accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Developing and Delivering Training Programs: Educating employees on safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and environmental awareness.
  • Managing Emergency Response Plans: Developing and implementing plans for various emergency scenarios, such as fires, chemical spills, and medical emergencies.
  • Maintaining Records and Documentation: Keeping accurate records of inspections, audits, training sessions, incidents, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Monitoring and Analyzing EHS Performance: Tracking key metrics, identifying trends, and recommending improvements to EHS programs.
  • Working with Management and Employees: Collaborating with all levels of the organization to promote a strong safety culture and ensure EHS concerns are addressed.
  • Managing Hazardous Materials and Waste: Ensuring the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with regulations.
  • Implementing Industrial Hygiene Programs: Monitoring and controlling employee exposure to physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
  • Participating in Sustainability Initiatives: Contributing to the organization's efforts to reduce its environmental footprint and promote sustainability.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Well-versed in Project Management.
  • Team player.
  • Quality and safety conscious.
  • Effective at influencing and driving results across all organizational levels.
  • Waste water treatment experience preferred.
