About the role

Responsible for leading the day-to-day execution of assigned production operations through strong floor presence, clear accountability, and proactive people leadership. Ensures safety, quality, delivery, and productivity expectations are consistently met while removing barriers to performance and maintaining smooth shift execution. Leads, coaches, and develops frontline employees and team leads, addresses performance gaps, and builds bench strength for future growth. Partners cross-functionally with maintenance, quality, engineering, and materials teams to quickly resolve issues, support customer needs, and drive continuous improvement.

Compensation: $90,000-$110,000

What you will be doing

  • Ensure a safe work environment within the manufacturing facility for all employees
  • Exercise the ability to mentor, lead, and develop employees' skills and responsibilities on a continuous basis
  • Effectively communicate with, evaluate and motivate direct reports to achieve a high performance environment that empowers and develops people
  • Investigate solutions to and solve more complex problems regarding people, processes and technology
  • Propose, justify, implement and lead continuous improvement teams and actions, in order to establish a Lean Manufacturing environment
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Monitor quality for continuous improvement and implement corrective action to achieve zero defects that will promote Southco as the leader in the global market
  • Effectively coordinate and communicate production issues with management, production planning, quality, staff, and production supervisors across all shifts
  • Monitor production processes for constraints and productivity improvements.  Develop plans and actions to alleviate the constraints in order to provide world class service
  • Effectively utilize the employees to address production and quality issues in a team setting
  • Coordinate with other shift supervision to establish production requirements and assign work as appropriate
  • Perform facility closing procedures at the end of the shift, when necessary
  • Exert adequate technical and leadership skills to manage manufacturing departments and plan for the future
  • Exercise sufficient departmental and business systems understanding to lead department effectively in supplying and scheduling product or services to other departments and to customers, on time
  • Monitor standard work, production processes, and rates to be certain optimum in quality and production is obtained; take corrective action where required
  • Ensure that sufficient material and labor resources are available for production requirements
  • Continually observe and train operators to update their capabilities in machine operation
  • Identify employee training needs and provide such training; monitor and evaluate employee progress
  • Assume team leader role in motivating and empowering employees in respective departments

About you

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate’s Degree preferred)
  • 5 years of supervisory experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Good planning, organization and analytical skills along with the ability to apply/learn the required Lean Manufacturing skills to lead Kaizen events, such as 5S, Setup Reductions, TPM, etc
  • Expected to demonstrate basic knowledge of the technical requirements of assigned area
  • Work effectively across all segements of the organization
  • Technical background and skills to manage and develop the department(s) and resolve daily problems
  • Ability to work in and promote a team environment and be a good team member
  • Team leadership qualities and interpersonal skills needed to motivate, develop and empower people and promote a high level of communication and understanding and positive environment
  • Ability to plan and implement activities that support the company's global goals
  • An enthusiastic, energetic, positive outlook toward company goals and work ethics
  • An ability to grasp and understand the business system and quality system (ISO 9000)
  • Able to learn facility security and emergency response procedures and facility maintenance systems

  • Process Optimization: Implement cycle-time reductions and tool improvements for multi-axis CNC lathes, Davenport turning centers
  • First-Article Inspection (FAI): Supervise employee first-article inspections to ensure part dimensions align with tight tolerances (often ±0.0005”) before full production runs.
  • GD&T Mastery: Interpret complex blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
  • Root Cause Analysis: Lead investigations into non-conforming parts, implementing corrective actions to reduce scrap rates and rework.
  • Resource Scheduling: Manage daily shift assignments and machine loading to meet Just-in-Time (JIT) production deadlines and maximize machine uptime.
  • ERP/MRP Proficiency: Utilize shop floor management software (SAP) to track job progress, material usage, and labor efficiency.
  • Tooling Management: Coordinate with Supply chain to maintain optimal inventory levels of inserts, drills, and custom work holding, ensuring zero downtime due to supply shortages.
  • Preventative Maintenance (PM): Manage and verify routine PM on turning centers to extend machine life and prevent unplanned outages.
