About the role

The Mold Service Technician is accountable for ensuring production needs are met by keeping tooling serviced (prepared, cleaned, and maintained) and ready for scheduled production runs. This role works closely with the Toolroom Manager, Production Supervisors, and Toolroom personnel. You'll operate with a good degree of autonomy — general instructions are given for new assignments, but you'll need no instruction on routine work.

  • Cleaning molds and returning them to storage in "ready for production" condition
  • Recording and tracking all mold damage and repair in the mold database; assisting toolmakers with evaluating trends and maintaining accurate inventory of mold repair/wear items (pins, springs, bolts)
  • Performing simple repairs, including replacing tooling inserts, ejector pins, core pins, and other common repairs
  • Reviewing the production schedule and recommending changes to job sequencing
  • Updating setup sheets and helping maintain accurate documentation

How you will be making an impact

  • Providing guidance and direction on maintaining molds, and training other employees on new molds, tools, and mold service techniques
  • Reviewing new tooling with experienced toolmakers and related prints to build familiarity with tooling
  • Keeping production running smoothly by ensuring tooling issues are caught, tracked, and resolved before they become downtime
  • Supporting the toolroom team's collective knowledge by documenting trends and mentoring others

About you

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of diecast molds and processes
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks on a daily basis
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Able to operate lift equipment
  • Working knowledge of toolroom equipment
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems
  • Skilled at planning, organizing, and handling multiple priorities
  • Comfortable interacting and working well with customers
